About ConsentTrail

What ConsentTrail Does

ConsentTrail is a PECR marketing consent audit tool for UK businesses. It documents where each email address came from, what consent wording was shown, and when consent was given — the exact evidence the ICO demands during investigations.

Who It's For

Marketing managers and business owners at UK SMEs (10–500 employees) doing email or SMS marketing. If you use Mailchimp, HubSpot, Brevo, or any ESP to send marketing emails, ConsentTrail fills the consent documentation gap those platforms leave open.

Typical sectors include:

  • E-commerce and retail
  • SaaS and technology
  • Professional services
  • Recruitment agencies
  • Estate agents
  • Financial advisers and insurance brokers

Why ConsentTrail Exists

The ICO has issued 49 PECR fines totalling £4.63M since March 2022. The pattern in every enforcement action is the same: businesses couldn't prove valid consent existed for the marketing they sent.

Enterprise consent management platforms (OneTrust, TrustArc, Cassie) cost £8,000–12,000/year and still focus primarily on cookie consent, not email marketing consent. ESPs record a timestamp when someone subscribes — but not the consent wording, PECR conditions, or collection method.

That leaves a gap. ConsentTrail fills it — at a price that makes sense for SMEs.

Built by Crocker Digital Ltd

ConsentTrail is a product of Crocker Digital Ltd (Company No. 17008789), a UK technology company focused on building compliance and operational tools for small and medium businesses.

We identified the PECR consent gap through studying ICO enforcement patterns. The same problem appeared repeatedly: businesses had GDPR processes in place but no specific PECR consent documentation.
